"HIDDEN" TEMPORARY "IE5" FILES

You can't get to the "IE5" file directly -- you must do the following:

COPY & PASTE THE FOLLOWING INTO THE BROWSER:

C:\WINDOWS\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5

These contain unwanted pictures, gifs, offensive matter stored WITHOUT YOUR CONSENT OR HAVING SAVED THEM!

(They Won't show up as a file folder & you can't make a shortcut directly to them. Insidious buggers.)

http://www.thesitewizard.com/webdesign/backgroundmusic.shtml]

HOW TO EMBED BACKGROUND MUSIC ON YOUR WEB SITE

The problem with embedding background music is that the different browsers out there have their own methods of implementing embedded music files. For all versions of Netscape, as well as IE 3.0 and above, you can use the following code:

<embed src="yourmusicfile.mid" autostart="true" loop="true" width="2" height="0"> </embed> [NOTE: DELETE THE loop="true" OR IT WILL PLAY REPEATEDLY]

The width and height attribute given above causes the player to be invisible. If you do not want it to be invisible, you can specify your own dimensions to suit your site decor.
Playing Music Only When a Link is Clicked
If you have a MIDI file that you want played when a visitor clicks a link, put HTML code like the following on your page:
<a href="yourmusicfile.mid">Play background music</a> Replace the "yourmusicfile.mid" with the appropriate filename. Note that the above HTML code works for ".wav" and ".mp3" files as well (or anything else).

VIRUS STUFF:
Noticeable computer virus symptoms

If the user has the correct knowledge, computer virus symptoms can often be spotted quickly after infection. Malicious viruses will often corrupt or delete program or system files, and perhaps invade the computer storage and memory. The deletion of critical files can usually been seen almost instantly, as commonly used programs will no longer work as intended, or parts of the system will start to become unstable or disabled; when it has been determined that these errors have not been caused by the user, it is highly likely that the computer terminal, system or network has been infected with a computer virus. Symptoms like this can be spotted quickly, which allows the user to act on the spot.

Computer virus symptoms: Degradation of system stability

While some computer virus symptoms may alert infected users of their presence, through an on-screen message of some sort, the majority of virus programs are a little more subtle - and these are the more destructive computer virus. Symptoms of these types of virus, generally, involve a sudden degradation in the computer's ability. If the user suddenly spots a dramatic decrease, or considerable slowing down of their computer terminal, it is worth scanning for viruses, as this may be a cause.

How can I email a message to a group of people, without displaying everyone's name and email address?

A. The most efficient way to achieve this is with the blind carbon copy (bcc) feature. First type the email text. Then type the email addresses in the Bcc field, or click the Bcc button to select from your address book. Leave the To field blank. Recipients will see the message addressed "To: Undisclosed recipient," or the field will be blank.
TIP: If you do not see the Bcc field on a new mail message, activate it by choosing the Bcc Field option under the View menu.

QUOTATION MARKS TURNING INTO QUESTION MARKS

http://sln.suny.edu/sln/public/lnpubohd.nsf/0/02c97f9ed71c200785256a3c004bea75?OpenDocument

Why are my quotation marks and apostrophes now question marks?

I used copy & paste to transfer my text to the online assignment form. Why are my quotation marks and apostrophes now question marks?

When you use the 'Copy and Paste' method for submitting written assignments or transferring text from your word processor to an online form, quotation marks (single or double) and apostrophes may appear as question marks in your text on the form. What may be happening is that the word processor you are using to create the text is putting in "smart" quotes or "true" quotes. As these are not true ASCII characters, they don't import correctly to the written assignment form. Here are directions for 'turning off' the smart quotes or true quotes settings in Word for Windows, Word97, WordPerfect, and Lotus Word Pro 96. You must turn off these settings BEFORE creating the document. Then complete a practice assignment submission in Module 3 of this orientation so you know the problem has been resolved. If you are using another type of word processor application then what is listed below, consult your owner's manual or the Help screen of the application for more information.
Windows Programs
Word for Windows (prior to Word97)
1. Pull down the FORMAT menu.
2. Select AUTO-FORMAT
3. Select OPTIONS
4. Deselect REPLACE STRAIGHT QUOTES WITH SMART QUOTES. (Make sure the X does not appear)
WORD97, Word2000, and WordXP
1. Pull down the Tools menu
2. Select AutoCorrect.
3. Select AutoFormat As You Type.
4. Deselect Replace as you type "Straight quotes" with "smart quotes".
5. Select AutoFormat.
6. Deselect Replace "Straight quotes" with "smart quotes".
7. Click OK.

Hi! I need some help with my computer, I normally can find the solution on the internet but for this problem nothing has helped. When i reboot my computer[I am running Windows ME ] i get a pop up window that says "MSSCRIPTCONTROL::UNKNOWN ERROR" exactly like that but without the quotes of course. I press okay and everything loads as normal and my computer seems fine, its just annoying. I've tried all the solutions on the internet that I could find and they either 1. dont apply to my exact situation or 2. dont work! so I came here in hope of some help. I ran ad-aware several times and it got rid of a bunch of spyware and I even downloaded and ran spy-bot S&D which got rid of a few more things. I've cleared out my cookies folder and temp folder, cleared history and even defrag and ran scan disk and i'm still having this problem. :( I checked my programs list and nothing new seems to be installed, I've checked my program files and nothig new there either. I dont know what to do, can someone help me? Thanks so much in advance  ~Amy~

I don't have a definite answer for you but I found this very old item after Googling your error message; http://www.guninski.com/scractx.html

Have you got all the patches for IE? You might want to consider disabling Active Scripting and/or using another browser. Here's a link to an article about how to make IE less dangerous to use (I don't know if it's been updated to take into account the changes SP2 has made to IE[ if you're an XP user]);http://www.guninski.com/scractx.html

You might also want to think about posting a HJT log;http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtutorial=42 Read this tutorial carefully and be sure to follow the advice about putting HJT in its own folder and NOT fixing anything until you have got some advice from one of the experts here.

[ANOTHER THREAD, URL LINK BELOW 3RD MSG]

Go to START | RUN

Type in: "msconfig"; Hit "OK"

Go to the Start-up TAB and post here what entries are there. Is there anyway to copy what is in the Start Up Tab box. I did find a suspicious box checked titled "Scriptblocking". Should I uncheck it? Do you want me to list every box that is checked in the Start Up Tab? I am a novice at this. Thanks for your help. Weldon
--------------------------------
The only Start-Up items you really need are:

ScanRegistry / TaskMonitor (only if you use it to schedule a task)/ SystemTray / LoadPowerProfile / Your antivirus program

There are literally thousands of items that can be in a start up menu, and BTW: they are all listed Here

Yes just list ones that are checked besides the ones that I listed above.
-------------------------------------
Hi weldonkm, Murf is correct however dont uncheck anything yet.

Your problem is caused by malware running on your PC. Go here (http://www.cybertechhelp.com/download.php?hijackthis1977.zip) and download the latest version of Hijack This to a new folder on your drive, unzip it and click on scan. Most of the files listed will be harmless and/or required so do not make any changes, just click on Save Log, copy it and post it back in this thread.

Go to your Task Manager and END TASK the process RTCRTP.exe. Try go to start, run, type msconfig uncheck RTCRTP Then do a search for that file and delete it. You might have to
----------------------------------------
This error can be caused by Adware and various exploits that are tried against your computer's security. My guess is that the script whose functionality you like has some not so nice hidden parts that you wouldn't like if you could really see what they are doing.

I just read a few of the sites returned on Google and there are several "solutions" that range from running an Adware detection application through turning off active scripting in the IE browser.

"eBlocs.com" is a bad-rep outfit (claims to remove spyware)

{This is old news, but posting in case some detail is hidden in the chatter:]

Click the Start button. * Click Run. * Type msconfig in the Open box and click OK. * The System Configuration Utility window should appear. * Click the Startup tab. * Uncheck any program that you feel is unnecessary. If you later find that you need one of these disabled programs to start automatically, repeat these steps and check the necessary program. * NOTE: Many programs install several entries for various sections of the program. This is especially true for anti-virus software. NOTE: Dell recommends that you keep your Antivirus software enabled, as well as critical operating system and Dell installed items; such as ScanRegistry, TaskMonitor, PCHealth, SystemTray, LoadPowerProfile (may appear twice,) *StateMgr, BayMgr, DadApp, CPortPatch, CreateCD, Motive Monitor, Mad.exe, and RX(User). If you are unsure of the functionality of a specific item, Dell recommends that you leave this item enabled and do not remove it from startup.

After completing this task, click Apply. Click OK. The system will prompt you to restart. Click OK. Hope it works for you too!

[More Audacity]

[http://www.osnews.com/comment.php?news_id=1179 ] You can import Ogg Vorbis, WAV, Mp3, Midi and other sound formats and then select to do your manipulation with the ease of cut, copy and paste (and with unlimited Undo), you can mix tracks together, or apply effects to your recordings. The great thing about Audacity is that there are no limits on the number of tracks or the length of any track, except the size of... your hard disk.

"...The computer settings on the WINDOWS MIXER were all correct - mic-in for the source and the mic gain selected...."

Finn has suggested what I think may be the problem. If you have your input set high in MusicMatch, say past 50%, your line or mic in is too low or not enabled. You may be boosting a weak input signal to distortion. I had this problem converting some records tracks to MP3s when I first started using the program. To check it, do this:

1. Double click on the speaker icon in your system tray (lower right box).

2. Select Options, then Properties in upper left.

3. In the Properties window select recording and then Ok.

4. Check the settings in this window and confirm that your input source is the one selected. That is, if you're using the Mic In, make sure that one is selected. Also confirm the physical connection to your computer.

5. Once you have everything properly selected, bring the level down a bit and record again.

If this cleans it up then you're on to the nuances of micing that Adrian has suggested for capturing the best sound from the guitar/room you are recording. [This message has been edited by Corn Dog (edited July 29, 2003).]

How To Record Audio CDs On a Computer

soundcard with a "Line in" port ; WAV file recording software; WAV to MP3 conversion software ; MP3 burning software, if you want to make audio CDs

You will be creating WAV files which are quite large averaging 10 Mb of space per minute of music, so the more you plan to record the more space you'll need. The average LP album is around 45 minutes which would require 450 MB of hard drive space.

Lastly there's the software.

WAV recording software is pretty easy to find. A couple I'd recommend are:

LP Recorder (Trialware) - http://www.cfbsoftware.com/lprecorder/lprecorder.htm

MusicMatch Deluxe - http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000C6EN7/cyberwalker/

Next you'll need to convert your new files to MP3. Again, software is required for this process.

I'd suggest the sister program to LP Recorder, LP Ripper: http://www.cfbsoftware.com/lpripper/download.htm

Or use the multi-practical program Nero Burning Rom 5.5 from http://www.ahead.de/nero55.htm . (Buy a full version from here)

In each program choose the WAV file(s) you previously recorded and select to convert them.

If you already know that you want to put the music straight onto CD then I'd suggest using Nero after you've created your WAV copies from LP or tape.

Nero has the capability to convert WAV files and burn them to CD audio "on the fly". In other words it'll save you the step of creating MP3s and then burning them as a separate process.

For more information on creating audio CDs from MP3s see our companion article on that topic available here: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000C6EN7/cyberwalker/
